Does every Benihana restaurant have a vegetarian meal option?
Q. I am attending a family dinner at a Benihana restaurant after Christmas. As a vegetarian, I am looking through their menu to see what sort of vegetarian options they have. Google results say that they have some sort of "secret" entree that is veggie-friendly, but I obviously don't see it on their online menu. Apparently, it is called "Vegetarian Saishoku" but if anyone can clarify that this is true? Just wondering if I should eat beforehand!

A. I got stuck going to Benihana for lunch a couple of weeks ago. They do have a veggie entree and (at least this was the case with our cook) they do the veggies first before they start with the meat, so the grill is clean. They start cooking them in oil, but then they slap in a big wad of butter towards the end of the cooking. If you're vegan, be prepared to ask them not to. I don't remember what it was called, but you couldn't miss it on the menu. They will also serve you white rice. It's not the most creative or satisfying meal I ever had, but it was a fairly nice selection of veggies, so it could have been a lot worse.
