Is raw cow milk safe to drink?
Q. My neighbor has a few dairy cows that were left over from a farm shutting down nearby. The cows don't take steroids or anything. They just graze on regular grass and clean water. My neighbor and her family drink the milk raw. I've never seen them have any problems with it. I looked up raw milk and most of the people claiming the dangerous thing about it is steroids and such but nothing on cows that are healthy and eat healthy, natural cow food (plain ol' grass). Is it safe to drink if the cow is healthy and doesn't take steroids? Please post. Thanks.

A. My opinion - YES - especially if you know how healthy the cows are, and are familiar with how sanitary the milking parlor is. I grew up on a farm with 4 siblings. We all had drank raw cows milk. Never had any problems that we knew of. Many of my friends also were from farm families that drank their own raw milk. It's very tasty, I remember my dad bringing several bottles of milk from the barn every evening and putting them in the fridge. Next morning, he'd pour off some cream from the top for his cereal and coffee. Before we drank any of the milk, we'd shake the bottle to mix it all up. Now, personal opinion aside, there are risks with drinking raw milk - especially if the milking operation isn't as clean as it could be.
