A. Lime water can be used to detect the presence of carbon dioxide as it reacts with carbon dioxide producing a precipitate of calcium carbonate: Ca(OH)2 (aq) + CO2 (g) CaCO3 (s) + H2O (l) The formation of the precipitate is basically showing you that carbon dioxide was produced by the respiring roots.

A. It just takes a few steps. I am not sure for what purpose it it but I suggest it is part of your experiment. You may want to plant it in a soil which is more easier. Prepare a good soil, place mongo seeds covered with a thin layer of soil on top and water it well then you are ready to observe. You may even just spread the seeds over a damp soil. If you want another way , use a damp cotton cloth to line the bottom of a small basin. Place your mongo seeds evenly and sprinkle water above it to make the entire area moist. Keep it for a day or two or as desired sprinkling water regularly. Exposure to sunshine should be based on your experiment. Bear in mind that germination of mongo seeds are very dependent to the amount of moisture, type of… [cont.]
