What plant grows faster; Arabidopsis, mongo seeds, or been seeds?
Q. I have a science fair project and I need a plant that grows fast so that I may see results within a few weeks. (I am planning on using gravity to alter the way these plants grow - any ideas on how I should do this?)

A. Arabidopsis will grow very quickly. Just out of curiosity, how will you be altering gravity? Unless you have a vacuum or some way of increasing the gravitational field around your plants, that might be rather difficult. If you are referring to gravitropism, that might be a bit easier. You can show that roots and shoots will grow towards the ground and sky, respectively, simply by turning the plantlets after a few days of growth. I would recommend germinating seeds and letting the shoots grow for about a week, then turning the pot/agar to the side, and allowing the shoots to continue growing for at least a week. You should notice a distinct curve in the plants stem as the shoots grow upright. If you are working in an agar, you… [cont.]

A. A Mongo Plant (aka Mung Beans) are often used in experiments for several reasons, the main of which is that their entire genome has been mapped and we have a full understanding of every gene and how it effects the plants characteristics. They are also fast growing and quick to reproduce. They have also been used in various experiments for a long time and the affects of envirommental factors are well understood with this species. For more info sources are below.

as a fertilizer, why are mongo or soybeans prefered to grass or some farm plants?
Q. as a fertilizer...
Asked by -sUpEr bAngs- - Mon Jul 2 07:23:03 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Soybeans contain more nutrients in an easy to break down form than grasses or other farm plants. In fact, most plants would be pretty ineffective in the amount of usable nitrogen that would be provided, but in soybeans, the usable nitrogen is broken down quite readily from the ground soybean and it is then capable of use by the grass. However, one thing to note is that soybeans do not provide any phosphorous, so their use of a fertilizer is in fact limited also.

A. It will still grow or germinate because of moisture but it will not look as healthy as the one being planted in the soil.

My mongo plant bends a lot.?
Q. When I was a kid, I'd plant mongo beans from boredom. I always noticed that it would bend. Every plant would bend down. Now, I planted them again, and they still bend. What can I do to stop it from bending?

A. you will need some long straight stick to give support to the plant. When you notice that your plants are going to bend, tied that plates with the long stick to prevent those plants bend. Hope this will help

A. Uhhh...it's mango..but no, they're not really all that fast growing in a home environment. They need lots of humidity, the seeds are semi-difficult to germinate, and though they have a lot of endosperm (food in the seed) they're not very quick growers, usually die within a few months, and it's almost impossible to get them to fruit in a home.

A. There are a lot of experiments on phototropism and geotropism in mung beans. If you Google phototropism and geotropism in mung beans (watch your spelling on phototropism) you will find them. Most are pretty scientific, if you just need general knowledge of phototropism and geotropism, you would be better off to Google just the words separately. Good luck. 0

Is Mongo Plant (Phaseolus Radiatus) or Mung Plant a photosensitive plant?
Q. Also why is the plant so commonly used in experiments locally?
Asked by Tricia P - Sun Sep 2 20:31:16 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. All plants react to light, so your answer is yes. I know mung beans are easily grown as sprouts, in the absense of any nutrient. It may just be the ease and rate of growth which makes them the ideal subject for simple experiments.
