leg muscles????
Q. Our P.E. teacher told us that if we wanted our leg muscles to get bigger, to stand on our tippie toes and come back down, and so on and so foreth, has anyone tried it, does it work? (sry I know what that muscle is called, but Im not sure on the spelling)
Asked by erika38105 - Sat Jul 14 02:43:44 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Those are called calf raises. They work. When you do them, point your toes forward, for the back of the calf; inside, for the outer calf; and outside, for the inner calf.

Is working out your leg muscles beneficial to the other muscles you work out?
Q. I heard though word of mouth that when you work out your leg muscles then it helps the other muscles you work on grow. Because your leg muscles are so big they release a lot more hormones, which the smaller muscles use to grow even faster sicne they are getting more of this hormone. This way your arm muscle for example will grow faster. Anyone hear of this?

How do I get good leg muscles for track?
Q. Im 5'6 and a pretty awkward girl. Im a sprinter so I can outrun more than half of my whole track tea but out of the sprinters I like the slowwest one. How do I get good leg muscles to help me run faster?
Asked by PrincessT - Sat Mar 21 12:53:12 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. With good leg muscles, you have to able to train them at a fast pace as to get them used to the speed. You have to just workout a lot at the gym. Try doing a lot of uphill running which will definatley help with strength and explosiveness. Then right after about 10 minutes go to the gym do some leg workouts if they have any machines. Make sure you stretch before and after every workout.

How does cycling help in developing your leg muscles?
Q. I wanted to know whether cycling helps in developing your leg muscles and whether it can make you a better runner. If yes then how many kms should one cycle daily?
Asked by sheru_715 - Fri Jul 16 10:48:41 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Cycling will help tone leg muscles - not bulk them up. Make you a "better runner"? I kind of doubt it. It would be a nice change of pace from running & keep the cardiovascular system going strong. It would also be easier on the knees & other joints. I cycle because I can't run anymore. Arthritis in the lower back & starting in the knees. Severe pain just from walking a few blocks. But I can still cycle! :) :)

How do i get strong leg muscles in a gym?
Q. i am 15 year old athlete and on the leg press how do you get stronger leg muscles ? is it lots of rep on a low weight or 6-8-12 reps on a heavy weight? by the way i am a female and i only want to have strong muscles not bulky big ones. any reps and sets info is appreciated xXx
Asked by ilovemybf - Sat Aug 15 09:49:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Since your looking to get strength and not size, do a lower weight with a lot of reps. Try going for like 25 reps each set. One thing you can do on leg press that is good is have your feet diagonally pointed away from each other and do 25, have you feet pointed straight and do 25, have your feet pointed diagonally towards each other and do 25, and then have your feet pointed straight but right next to each other and do another 25 all without taking any rest in between. Do three sets of that with a weight thats challenging but you can do and you will build strength and not size.

Can strong leg muscles keep a person from falling?
Q. If you have really strong leg muscles, can you use them to keep from falling over when you are off your center of gravity? Like when Michael Jackson does his famous "lean" from Smooth Criminal?
Asked by Phillip M - Sat Apr 5 02:07:44 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. no its not your legs. its your torso when your running your infact shaking your torso in a twist pattern. that helps keep your balance and center of gravity. when you fall your legs are first to give during a fall and they can't help ya. whe nyou fall try making your body twist to the side instead of falling face to concrete. landing on your side is easier on the body to take then it is when you land on your chest. as for the legs thing that is completely false sorry.

What are some good exercises that don't give you leg muscles?
Q. I'm trying to aim for my stomach/butt only, but all the exercises I've been seeing include a lot of leg motion. Example, squats, I don't want to get muscles on my legs (I get them easily) as I'm quite petite, I just want a toned abs and butt. Crunches are alright, any other good effective methods?

A. the only thing I can think of is crunches and leg lifts. But your butt is part of your legs. What I mean is when you exercise for your rear your legs are going to get it as well.

How do I get stronger arms, and leg muscles?
Q. Okay so I'm trying to get stronger to be better at basketball. I don't want to lift any weights cause I'm only 15 years old ad still have growing to do. I want to increase vertical jump, and to be able to absorb some contact and still be able to get a good shot off. How can I get stronger abs? Stronger arms? Stronger leg muscles? And how can I increase my speed in running?
Asked by TruWarrior - Mon Jun 21 13:23:22 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. you HAVE to lift weights in order to get bigger. trust me, it will not interfere with your growing. i'm 15 and i actually grew 2 inches ever since i started working out. when you lift weights certain growth hormones are released, allowing you to reach your full height faster. i recommend you hit up bodybuilding.com and see what's good there.

If I run a lot, will my thighs or my lower leg muscles get bigger?
Q. I see many people with big lower leg muscles, maybe it's because they run a lot. But many distance runners, their legs are quite skinny with rather big thighs. So if I run a lot, will my thighs or my lower leg muscles get bigger?
Asked by Peacekeeper - Fri Jan 2 05:41:54 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Depends, the muscles of short sprinters (100, 400 etc) tend to be bigger while those of long distance runners are smaller. When you do heavy exercise in short duration your muscles will grow bigger, like if you lift very heavy weight for small no of times. If you do it for long duration with small load, they will be thinner but with good stamina. If you put lot of pressure on your foot (ahead of ankle), your lower leg muscles will develop. You can also do it by skipping. You can also do exercises for thighs. But it will develop strength but not stamina of a long distance runner.

Will having strong leg muscles make me run longer and faster?
Q. Ive always been Curious, i know strong leg muscles will make u faster at like sprints and stuff but will it improve my endurance? Oh and im a freshman and i got a 23.16 on my 5K race, is this a good score and what can i do to improve?
Asked by Carlo C - Thu Sep 24 18:22:29 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That is a pretty good score, but you could do better. Having strong leg and calf muscles will help in general, but don't overdo it. You should have just a very slim amount of fat to keep you insulated, but not enough to make you chubby! Make sure you get a good sleep two nights before a big race, i know it sounds weird but just trust me! You might not want a watch. It will just make you go slower because you think you are going too fast! Good Luck!

Is there any way you can run long distance while still building leg muscles?
Q. I know long distance makes thighs toned and skinny, but i want to know what kind makes your legs bigger. I know sprinting, like in track, makes your thighs big. but the thing is i am not doing track so i would feel kind of stupid sprinting up and down the street. so how can i build my leg muscles with longer distance running? thanks!

A. One of the best way to build leg muscles is running downhills since it puts extra strain on your muscles along with hill running. Also try running on sand will train different muscles. Other ideas is doing fartleks or speed play drills or sprinting every mile for 50 meters. Also intervals will build leg muscles along with resistance training! Good luck!
