Why are bird eggs smaller on one end than the other?
Q. Why is this so? Turtle eggs are perfectly round like ping-pong balls, and so are the eggs of many other animals. So why are bird eggs shaped the way they are? I would very much appreciate the answer from an Ornathologist or someone who "really" knows.

A. Bird eggs are typical egg shape, structurally it is very strong in the longitudinal axis. It has very good weight to strength ratio, as far as outer protective cell goes, every thing about bird is that way, this is why they are able to fly.

How many eggs eat can you eat without eating the yolk?
Q. I want to increase my protein but I have no idea how much egg (without yolk) can be eaten a week. So how much eggs can I consume with the yolks removed? Anyone also have any idea what to do with the yolks to prevent wastage by throwing them away?

A. What limits your intake of eggs is the yolk due to the cholesterol content. If you're only eating the white, you can as many as you want. As for not wasting the yolks, a friend once told me to cook them and give them to the birds outside. Apparently they love egg yolks and are actually good for them. I find it a bit ironic that birds will eat eggs though, but at least the yolks don't go to waste. Hope this helps and best of luck! For more info on eggs:

How long are farm fresh eggs good for?
Q. How long are eggs fresh from the farm good for and how can you tell if they have gone bad? I've never purchased fresh eggs before, but now have the chance to. Is there a difference in taste from store bought eggs as well?

A. Usually about 2 weeks. A very big taste difference. The yolks are a darker yellow, and due to the range style feeding, they are better tasting. If you suspect the egg is bad, simply place the egg into a cup of water. If the egg sinks, it is fresh..if the egg severely floats, it's bad. edit add in: Do not let the first answer from the first poster scare you. Fresh eggs are *much* more healthier than mass marketed eggs. Once you have tried FF eggs, you will never want to go back to the commercial eggs. Trust me. I am a farm girl...born and raised on a farm...
