Asked by hurryburger - Mon Feb 19 12:13:53 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You need to meet the minimum requirements for admission to medical school first. These include...Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and English. You can get these requirements met at most any college or university. After applying and being accepted to medical school you must then complete your first 4 years of medical training and internship and complete a 2 to 4 year residency in dermatology. In total it will take about 11 to 12 years of school after graduation from high school. Hope this helps...

A. To be a dermatologist you must go to medical school. But first you have to go to college as an undergraduate and earn your Bachelors degree. that will take four years. You want to go to a college that has a premed program. You will still have to choose a major. medicine and premed are not majors. You will then have to take the MCAT exam and apply to medical schools. Once in medical school you will have to speacalize in dermatology-plan on another 6/8 years

How can I get started in learning about Dermatology?
Q. I am considering dermatology as a career, and I would like to learn as much as I can about it before I make any decisions. Any books, websites, or other helpful sources of knowledge will be appreciated. Thank you!
Asked by Madeline - Tue Nov 3 15:15:28 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Don't bother. What you'll need to learn is chemistry (general and organic), physics, biology, genetics and biochemistry. Why? Because if you want a dermatology residency spot, you're going to have to be at the very top of your med school class. You don't choose a specialty until you are finishing medical school. Besides, derm only has three rules: 1. If it's dry, make it wet. 2. If it's wet, make it dry. 3. When in doubt, use steroids. There, now you know all about dermatology :D For your entertainment, here is a site with more than 11,000 pictures of horrible skin lesions:

What should I major in and what classes should I take (in college and hs) for Dermatology?
Q. I'm really interested in dermatology, and I wanted to know what classes I should take in high school and college to help me and what I should major in for college. And for dermatology, you have to go to medical school, correct?

A. HS - Maximize your math and science (take biology if available). The residency training for dermatologists is three to four years. The three year program must be preceded by a year of broad-based clinical training (PGY-1). Practice in a dermatology sub-specialty requires one additional year of training.

Asked by Lana Marie - Mon Feb 12 01:09:23 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I'm not sure it's legal to get it anywhere but from a dermatologist. That's a doctor, who had to have gone to med school. Might have had to be board certified as a dermatologist. Not sure. I briefly looked at Botox's website, and from that, it seems to also suggest you have to get it from a doctor only. This isn't like dyeing your hair. This stuff is a milder version of the poison countries used to use as bio warfare to kill people.

Check out what over 90 people have said. Note these are not manufacturers adds but real people like you. Don't pay the money to do it the way you mentioned. Good luck spot. A. A dermatologist is a kind of physician. You don't specialize in skin until after you graduate from medical school. In college you have to take biology and chemistry classes, and calculus. Do you mean cosmetology? You could major in cosmetology, but that is something very different, and not useful for becoming a dermatologist.

What is the exact and detailed procedure for a dermatology surgeon to remove a small cyst on top of my head?

How much does standard dermatology treatment cost?
Q. I have acne and I would like to do something about it, but I am away from my family so I have to do it myself, and I would also like to pay for it myself. I have about 800$ but by no means want to spend it all.
Asked by omikev - Wed Nov 12 00:20:46 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you're referring to a consultation with a dermatologist, then that could cost anywhere between $150 and $250, depending on the part of the country you're in, how long the visit is, and the expense of the dermatologist you visit. This will only include the consultation and not include any treatments, prescribed medications, or products recommended for you. If you have insurance through your parents (or yourself), then this will be reduced dramatically to a small co-pay, but if not, then you will have to pay out-of-pocket.

Q. What college do you reccomend in Indiana preferably? The main question;; How many years do I need to take of college in order to become a licenced dermatologist?
Asked by Taylor N - Thu Mar 19 19:24:22 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A dermatologist is a doctor, so you will need 4 years of college, followed by 4 years of med school, followed by several years of internship and residency. You can probably get the undergraduate education you'll need at a number of schools in Indiana, including IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, DePauw, Earlham and maybe Butler. Wherever you go, you'll need a high GPA -- at least 3.6 -- to qualify for med school.

A. For any reason other than life-threatening or reproductive issues, minors must have parental/guardian permission in order to see a doctor. Have your mother sign a consent form that allows the doc to see you. If she won't sign...you will have to wait until you are 18...and you and your mom REALLY need to talk.

Being a Managerial Economics major, I can't tell you too much about that specific program, but from listening to pre-med friends, the undergrad classes are tough, but not impossible. Plus, there are many internship/research opportunities on campus, or at the UCD Med Center in Sacramento. If you've already got into UCD, congradulations! If not, I hope you will consider it. I'll be a senior next year and have absolutely enjoyed my first 3 years here. Good luck wli (a) ucdavis .dot. edu

A. Both are doctors, just different specialties... Dermatopathology is a sub-specialty of pathology. Pathologists, as a general rule, spend most of their time in a lab...looking at specimens sent to them by other physicians. For example, a dermatologist will see patients that come to them at an office with a skin problem. Often, based on what the skin problem is, they will just treat the problem. Sometimes, when a diagnosis is in question (or the extent of disease is in question), a dermatologist will take a sample of skin from the patient (punch biopsy, shave biopsy, incision biopsy, etc). They put the skin into a container and send it to a lab. The dermatopathologist then obtains the container and examines the specimen carefully to… [cont.]
