Chinese Cuisine is a term for styles of food originating in the regions of China, many of which have become extremely popular in other parts of the world — from Asia to the Americas, Australia, Western Europe and Southern Africa. Where there are historical immigrant Chinese populations, the style of food has evolved – for example, American Chinese cuisine and Indian Chinese cuisine are prominent examples of Chinese cuisine that has been adapted to suit local palates. In recent years, connoisseurs of Chinese have also sprouted in Eastern Europe and South Asia. The culinary Michelin Guide has also taken an interest in Chinese cuisine, establishing Hong Kong and Macao versions of its publication.

Presentation

A Chinese painting of an outdoor banquet. The painting is a Song Dynasty remake of a Tang Dynasty original.

In most dishes in Chinese cuisine, food is prepared in bite-sized pieces, ready for direct picking up and eating. In traditional Chinese cultures, chopsticks are used at the table.

Traditional Chinese cuisine is also based on opposites, whereby hot balances cold, pickled balances fresh and spicy balances mild.

What is the difference between Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai cuisine?
Q. I think they're very similar. And they use pretty much the same ingredients. Just wanted to know your options. I also I found Korean and Japanese cusine very similar to the Chinese cuisine too. Appreciate all the answers.

A. Wow, I saw a lot of good tries, but none that seemed to speak from experience. My mother is Thai and I've Vietnamese friends. There is some difference between them, but both are VERY different and distinctive from Chinese food (and Korean and Japanese are VERY, very different!) and I'll tell you why. Chinese food, the stuff you get from the take-out, isn't really "Chinese" cuisine. It's Americanized Chinese. Real Chinese is different and is most similar to Thai, as it can be very sweet. Sweet-toothed people love real Thai and Chinese food (or should). If you've ever been to the R&G Lounge in San Francisco, then you've eaten real Chinese food. The flavors of each dish are very bold, whether they're salty or sweet or full of ginger; … [cont.]

A. each came from a different different country(kind of given) and holds a slightly different taste profile. asian is simply a over term of all of these cooking types such as chinese, korean, japanese, and thai. it may also mean a mixture of different flavors from different asian countries. japanese is just the food you would get from japan, normally slightly more mild, and fresh; they may also have flavors with a bit of more sweet, such as teriyaki chicken; but do not go stereotyping. thai is more of a spicy, sour taste(do not stereotype, about this either). chinese food also hold a wide variety of taste, but it's very hard to clump them into a large taste group. you may have to try a bit more of these foods, and you'll reconized most of… [cont.]
