Q. Not literal starvation, but how long would you have to barely eat to start noticing any sort of weight loss? And please do not give me tips about healthy weight loss, exercising, eating right, because I know all of that. I'm just wondering about this specific question. So, please limit your answers to just being about my question. I'm not looking for answers I already know. I didn't ask what would happen afterwards, did I?

A. You can starve maybe for about a week, and see a pound or 2. after 3 weeks you would loose significant weight If you make it that long without dieing.

How long does it take to recover from starvation mode?
Q. Hi, I am 13 years old, 5'3 and about 93 pounds. I had anorexia for about 3 months and lost about 10-12 pounds. I know my body went into starvation mode. I lost my period this moth and was freaked out. How long will it take to recover? I know I am going to gain a lot of fat, but I want to know for how long, so then after I can start building muscle back up. Or am I stuck like this forever?

A. You stomach is smaller. If you want to gain weight you need to keep yourself feeling full so you can eat more at a sitting. That can take a week or three. You can start building muscle as soon as you are no longer underweight. Just start eat normal amounts of food. Take a vitamin. Start forcing yourself to exercise. It takes 2 to 4 weeks of exercise before your body will get use to doing them. For the first few it will feel like dragging yourself into it for each time. Keep the workouts light to start. Overdoing it is the biggest beginner's mistake. Also build up a large enough collection of exercises that you can vary your workout every day. Doing the same workout day after day raises the risk of injury and builds muscle resistance to… [cont.]

How many calories can I eat without going to starvation mode?
Q. I know if you eat to little that your body will go into a starvation mode and your body will store all the fat instead of help you lose it. I want to eat as less as possible. So what is the least amount of calories a female that is 5'6 can get away with? PS: The point in my diet is not really to lose the weight, but get into shape and lose fat and gain muscle.

A. well the number of calories one can take without having to little or to much is different for everyone. try to have snacks at every meal nothing big. so you trick your system. cold water is suppose to take up one pound because it has to be heated in your stomach so you loose 1 lb every time you drink cold water. i had a nutritionist and a instructor lol eck. they put me on a blood type diet and gave me shots that had to be special ordered to get rid of water weight . turns out im allergic to half the stuff i eat and it causes me to retain water. go figure.

What effect does hunger & starvation have on the human body? How does famine damage, destroy the body?
Q. I am researching the effects of starvation on the human body, how it breaks it down.
Asked by chazandlara@sbcglobal.net - Thu Jul 3 02:36:06 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. basically, when the body does not have enough nourishment, it starts eating itself. these nutrients are sent to the brain, heart, lungs, liver and other vital organs. basically this happens until the body is too weak to function.

Q. I am a 17 year old guy and for the past few months I have been on a strict diet of 1000 calories or less and I think my body has probably entered starvation mode. Now how do I get my body out of starvation mode and resume normal eating without gaining back the fat?

A. Well first i assume your exercising, so keep doing that. A good way to not gain back the wieght is to start eating a few more calories every week until you get back to normal. I would suggest gaining back 100 calories every week until you get to where you want to be. Good luck!!!

How many calories must one consume to avoid starvation mode?
Q. I'm trying to lose weight and was wondering how many calories one must consume in order to prevent starvation mode. I know that ate more than that today, but for future reference, what are the amounts?
Asked by LiiSsY - Mon Sep 15 11:30:36 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You guys are retards. You can eat 5000 calories a day and still go into starvation mode. This is caused by eating one meal a day or not eating often enough. If there is food constantly in your stomach your body will think it doesnt need to store fat and wont. It has nothing to do with how much you eat more so how often you eat.

How many calories does the body burn while in starvation mode?
Q. and how many (calories) a day does it need to get out of it? and what happens while in starvation mode? how long before a human body gets into this state? Also, does taking vitamin supplemints daily, (providing all the essential vitamins and minreals that the body needs) keep it out of it?
Asked by Yuiii Oppi - Wed Jan 13 13:55:43 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Starvation mode will slow your body's consumption of energy. That's why people feel weak when they are starving. Your body says "Only use this energy if it will get us food." I would assume in starvation mode you would burn between 960-1440 calories / day depending on your size. As compared to a nurished person who might burn 1600-2000 calories /day (not inclusing physical activity). Supplying the body multi vitamins will not stop you from going into starvation. Starvation is the lack of sugar, carbohydrates, protein, alcohol, and fat that you normally break down to produce energy. Multi-vitamins are mearly absorbed into the bloodstream and broken down into vital coponents by the liver, not the muscles/brain/other organs.

A. I hate to tell you this, but she could die from that. You need to tell somebody. There's only ONE WAY to lose fat - and that is to create a calorie deficit. However, there are two ways to create a calorie deficit - one is to decrease your food intake so you are eating less than you burn, the other is to increase your exercise and activity so you are burning more than you eat. Of the two ways to create a calorie deficit, burning the fat is far superior to starving it. You see, cutting calories too much causes weight loss at first, but it also causes muscle loss and it eventually leads to a decrease in metabolism, so the weight loss stops. This is very common on conventional diets, right? You lose weight in the beginning, but then you hit… [cont.]

A. I'm going to be honest with you. Starvation mode varies with different people. In other words, the amount of caloric deficit it takes for your body to go into starvation mode is different than what it would take for mine to. Usually it takes eating 50% or less of the amount of calories you need in a day for about a week, but this is always different for every person. So if you eat like this for one week, you will lose a lot of weight, 5-10 pounds or so but the next week you will slow down weight loss a little bit. If you continue to eat like this, you will continue to lose weight. Some idiots on this site like to say "Oh if you eat less than 1200 calories you'll go into starvation mode and gain weight!!!" They're completely wrong. … [cont.]

How many calories do I need to avoid starvation mode?
Q. Hi I am 5ft tall. I weight 113 but I just want to drop to about 107, no less. I work out alot and I eat well. I am going to cut my calories which is currently 1650 to maintain - but I don't want to get into starvation mode. Is 1200 ok? then when I reach my goal I will slowly add in calories to find how much I can eat to maintain. Also if I were to accidentally get into starvation mode do I just eat more to get out? thanks!

A. 1200 would be the absolute minimum. But be aware, you are not overweight now, so even with lower calories, and with working out, you may not lose weight, you'd do better to use a tape measure rather than a scale and work towards getting into the shape you want rather than a certain weight. Just a word of warning about the spammer above talking about acai weight loss products and their so called free trials. There was a news broadcast just yesterday about these free trial scams, and how they cost consumers hundreds of dollars. You have to give your credit information to get this so called "free" trial, and they begin sending you stuff immediately... one woman had to close her credit account because she could not get them to stop sending… [cont.]

How do I get my personal starvation mode number?
Q. I know in most places, the number people refer to is always 1200 calories. 1200 calories is the least you should be consuming. but i was wondering, does this change for specific heights/weights/ages? I am female 15 years old. 5"0 115 lbs. is my "starvation mode" also 1200 as well? because it's obvious a 30 year old male who is 6"3 and weighing 250 pounds does not have a "starvation mode" of 1200. how do i find out MY personal starvation mode?

A. Its generally around 1000 calories under what you actually need for the day. A girl your weight would only need 1200 calories if you're not active whatsoever. Obviously you would need to eat more the more active you are. While you could eat slightly less than that and still be ok its not recommended because your body is still developing

Why do so many people in Africa die of starvation and live in such crushing poverty?
Q. I give to charity and am a strong member of one.org My question is why is there such extreme poverty and starvation in many parts of Africa? Do they have corrupt governments? Not enough social services? Is there too much over crowding? Too much unemployment? Are diseases such as AIDS killing off main bread winners of families? Is there not enough farming land? What is wrong with Africa that so many die of starvation and live in such absolute poverty?

They introduced cities and large-scale monoculture farming, designed to produce crops for export. That introduced large populations without evolving the kinds of farming that would work for the local environment. There is sufficient land to feed them if it were used… [cont.]
