Raw foodism (or rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of un-cooked, un-processed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Raw foodism or a raw diet is usually equated with raw veganism in which only raw plant foods are eaten, but other raw foodists emphasize raw meat and other raw animal products. Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a selection of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains such as gaba rice), eggs, fish (such as sashimi), meat (such as carpaccio), and non-pasteurized/non-homogenized dairy products (such as raw milk, raw milk cheese, and raw milk yogurt). Raw foodists can be divided between those that advocate raw vegetarianism or raw veganism, those that advocate a raw omnivorous diet, and those that advocate a diet of only raw animal foods (carnivorous). Adherents of raw foodism believe that consumption of uncooked foods encourages weight loss (and stability, without the risk of re-gaining), while also preventing and/or healing many forms of sickness and chronic diseases. Some medical studies have indicated that different forms of raw food diets may lead to various health problems, while other studies have shown positive health outcomes with such diets. From Google News Search: "Raw Food" How should I go about converting my cats to a raw food diet.? Q. I have two wonderful cats, one is just over a year old, the other is seven years old. I am ready to start feeding them a raw food diet, but after having them both on strictly kibble diet all of their life, I am unsure as to what I should start them on. I have had people recommend chicken necks and wings, but I was wondering if anything else would be good. I would like to stay mostly in one protein source, at least at first. Any ideas? Lol! when I said I would like to stay in one protien source I ment until they had gotten the hang of a raw diet. So maybe for a week or two. Asked by Eon - Wed Jan 28 20:26:26 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. That might be a good start. Since they are used to crunching on kibble - if you chop necks and wings into very small pieces they might try it. Those items are good and are NOT a properly balanced diet for cats so you have some things to learn there. You can try to see if they will eat a quality canned food such as Wellness. They may not recognise ANY meat as food. There is a Yahoo group called Whole Cat Health and I would suggest you join it. The members are feeding raw or converting their cats to raw. I have been doing a lot of research and I do believe the raw food diet is the healthiest diet. I have decided to just stick with the raw food diet. I mean, I still want to do a lot of juicing, but not exclusively. I want to include whole raw fruits and vegetables in my diet as well. I think this diet is the original diet of humans before we became corrupt and started eating the corpses of other beings (gross!). The raw foods diet is not a fad. The meat eating diet is the fad. The original man ate a diet of raw fruits and vegetables. It was only after man became corrupt, that he started eating meat and giving up morals. You know, I laugh when I read some of these replies. I have done some research into the raw food diet before answering your question and yes it sounds like a healthy diet. It also recommends this diet for people who: Want the easiest way to remove fat from diet Want the easiest way to lose weight Have an eating disorder If you want to live off a raw food diet then go ahead, eat what you like, I really don't care. But you say that that fruit and veg is the original diet of humans. You are wrong and as I unlike you are able to quote my sources, here it is In scientific circles it was always assumed that the first people ate meat, says paleontologist John de Vos from the Naturalis museum in Leiden, the Netherlands. Q. My husband and I are both obese and need to lose 80-100 pounds each. A friend recommended a raw food diet, where you eat as much as you want without having to cook. Does anyone know where I can get info on how to begin, any supplements/vitamins that would be necessary (or how to get everything our bodies need from this type of eating), without me having to order a book? Asked by bamakathy - Thu Sep 20 10:52:43 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I've been eating strictly raw for about a year, and it's great! Here are a few websites to get you started: the first thing you will likely encounter is lists of equipment you need, and books you need to purchase... Don't worry about that at first, just eat all the raw fruits and vegetables you want, limiting the avocados. Juice is great if you have a juicer- otherwise it has been pasteurized. (cooked) When you feel the need for something more (or you're on the verge of ordering a pizza...) go for an avocado or some raw cashews. When you're ready, "The Complete Book of Raw Food" is a good basic to start with.
