Raw veganism is a diet which combines veganism and raw foodism. It excludes all food of animal origin, and all food cooked above 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit). A raw vegan diet includes raw vegetables and fruits, nuts and nut pastes, grain and legume sprouts, seeds, plant oils, sea vegetables, herbs, and fresh juices. There are many different versions of the diet, including fruitarianism, juicearianism, and sproutarianism. Sometimes the definition of a raw vegan diet is loosened to include vegan diets with at least 75% raw foods. MotivationsIn addition to the ethics of eating meat, dairy, eggs and honey, a raw vegan may be motivated by: Health reasonsRaw vegans believe that cooking foods destroys the complex balance of micronutrients. They also believe that, in the cooking process, dangerous chemicals are produced by the heat interaction with fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Environmental reasonsSome raw vegans are concerned about deforestation and sustainability, believing the use of wood or fossil fuels for cooking is harmful to the environment. Spiritual and/or philosophical reasonsMost dedicated followers of a raw vegan diet place importance on spiritual gain. Ruthann Russo states, "The raw food movement looks at the way food, living, treatment of the earth, our treatment of each other, and our quest for physical, spiritual, and mental health all fit together. Vultures and other birds have been confirmed to cook their food on hot rocks. I think it is a lie. It has many untrue facts\, and is very offensive. This website is wrong. I was thinking of going raw vegan after being vegan, mainly to avoid cooking and making the kitchen look bombed really. However some googling and did and youtubing, i saw a few nice recipies that sounded nice, but i saw this comment of a guy "I agree. I tried eating a raw vegan diet, but I kept having diarrhea for many months. I eat the superfoods and have drinked the green smoothies. I really like the green smoothies, but I kept having digestive problems. Once I included meat back into my diet it is totally gone! Perfect light brown firm stools now. Sorry for being graphic. I like David Wolfe and think it is great he is helping people. He has alot of good information. I just don't see the long term effects of eating that way." My husband always advises a raw food diet for his patients with digestive issues, and they thrive on it. It's a CURE, not a cause. A raw food plan isn't about "superfoods" and "green smoothies," although many raw foodists consume them. It's about fruits, vegetables, juices, nuts and seeds. One caution- a raw food diet probably isn't for someone who wants to get out of the kitchen, since convenience foods and take-out are not an option, and most recipes are fairly time consuming. Answered by Jen D - Fri Oct 3 11:56:59 2008 Is yogurt allowed in Raw Food diet?
Q. I am just getting into the raw food diet. I read several books and just realized that it is veganism also. I would like to know if yogurt is okay to eat. i want to keep eating it if it is okay. I make my own yogurt with organic milk which is non-raw. I read some non-raw food is okay to eat since the benefit of eating it is greater than not eating it.
