Raw foodism (or rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of un-cooked, un-processed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Raw foodism or a raw diet is usually equated with raw veganism in which only raw plant foods are eaten, but other raw foodists emphasize raw meat and other raw animal products. Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a selection of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains such as gaba rice), eggs, fish (such as sashimi), meat (such as carpaccio), and non-pasteurized/non-homogenized dairy products (such as raw milk, raw milk cheese, and raw milk yogurt). Raw foodists can be divided between those that advocate raw vegetarianism or raw veganism, and those that advocate a raw omnivorous diet.

Adherents of raw foodism believe that consumption of uncooked foods encourages health benefits.

Can i feed raw food with dog food to my pup?
Q. I'm thinking of purchasing a high quality dog food such as canidae or innova but adding maybe a raw chicken leg. I'm not planning to mix them together, but maybe throw a chicken leg for breakfest then the other 2 meals would be the dog food. Is this acceptable and since it's raw i'm thinking the pup will get some benefits.

A. Raw diets are very beneficial for dogs, my dogs used to be on complete raw diets, but with expenses and availability had to cut back to half raw half kibble (raw morning, kibble night). I'm glad you already plan to not mix them (was my first thought when i read this question), as the two substances digest at different rates and can increase their chance of getting worms and salmonella. Though I am reluctant to feed them alot of kibble (due to the very poor ingrediants used in most), there are some high quality foods out there. Canidae was one for a while, though i'm not sure about its current rating. Taste of the Wild, Premium Edge, Fromms, Evo: red meat, Evangers, some of these foods are good for dogs and are either low in grains or… [cont.]

I want to start my cat on a raw food diet, does anyone have any suggestions and or recipes?
Q. I recently discovered how awful processed food is to feed to a cat. I am interested in starting my cat on a raw food diet. I need some suggestions and or recipes to get started. I live in an urban environment and I am personally opposed to grinding meat. Can anyone help?

How does someone begin a raw food diet?
Q. My husband and I are both obese and need to lose 80-100 pounds each. A friend recommended a raw food diet, where you eat as much as you want without having to cook. Does anyone know where I can get info on how to begin, any supplements/vitamins that would be necessary (or how to get everything our bodies need from this type of eating), without me having to order a book?

A. I've been eating strictly raw for about a year, and it's great! Here are a few websites to get you started: the first thing you will likely encounter is lists of equipment you need, and books you need to purchase... Don't worry about that at first, just eat all the raw fruits and vegetables you want, limiting the avocados. Juice is great if you have a juicer- otherwise it has been pasteurized. (cooked) When you feel the need for something more (or you're on the verge of ordering a pizza...) go for an avocado or some raw cashews. When you're ready, "The Complete Book of Raw Food" is a good basic to start with.
